Postby Saan » Wed Dec 17, 2008 4:54 am

Hay Friends,
Whenever we open another pc in lan then we can access only share folders of that PC
But If U want to access those folders which r not shared then there is small trick, But before Discussing about that I want to say that there is some drawback in that trick. and I hope we will share ur knowledge to findout that.

Example:
In my office my computer name is ITPC.
I know the User Name and Password of another PC named ITECH.
Whenever I open ITECH in Lan I was able to view only the shared folders of ITECH.
then in Explorer address bar I write \\itech\c$ and it shows all the folders of c:.
similarly U can Use
D$,E$....
Admin$
etc.

But U cannot access CD Drive, USB Drive By using this trick.

I hope some body will findout how to access those by using '$'.

Yes Ofcourse
seema UR absolutely right
The drive must be shared.
If U share UR CD drive then U can also acces it by using its shared name.
It is a small trick for newcomer not for the expert.

If My drive is not shared then how can i share it by using lan not the Physical access of the PC.
If some expert can answer then I think it accelerate my journey to a great extent.

Thanx again for haring UR knowledge.

Yes
I found a trick to share an unshared drive using Remote Registry
In the pevious post I had written that I can access C: of ITECH by using the code
\\ITECH\C$ in my address bar. It will work if the C: of ITECH pc is shared.

Suppose C: of ITECH is not shared then also it canbe accessed by itpc by using a trick that i had used.
1)I open registry of my pc (ITPC).
2)Then I get connected the network registry of ITECH pc.
3)It allow me to change
a)HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
b)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
c)HKEY_USERS

4)Then I follow the following path in Itech Network registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters]
5)In Right pannel of Parameter Key I made 2 dword value named
a)AutoShareServer
b)AutoShareWks

6)Then I modify its value to 1
7)Then I use following command in DOS prompt to restart that remote PC.
shut down -m \\itech -f -r -t 00
8)After sometime I able to access the C: of ITECH. By using \\ITECH\C$

That means all the hard drives are shared automatic when I restart that PC.
But still I have some doubts..
Can we share an unshared CD drive or USB drives remotely ?
I think some one will help in this regard.

Hi Saan,

This is a nice Registry hack to get it done. But i am not sure whether it will share the drive automatically. But the good thing here i found is one can access a computer through a software(Lets assume that you got access to a remote computer) Then that program just need to modify the registry... :) . I still need to implement it in my system. As i was really busy these days due to end of year, i didn't get much time for all the interesting tips and tricks those i am seeing now in this site. Good Job Saan.

Nice trick. Thumbs up :)

No
U can access remote registry of any system in LAN, There is a fascility there in Registry Editor. After remotely accessing the registry of any sytem (By using Registry editor) U can modify their registry manually and can apply the above settings.
But U have to know the correct User ID and Password of that system to access remote registry through Registry editor.

I think U can apply it in UR systems.
I hope U will be free, and share UR experience...

Remote computer,
I mean that the system which is in LAN.

U can access the network registry by using the following option.
(1)Open Your Registry Editor.
(2)Click on Registry Menu -->Connect Network Registry

In Windows 2000 it just ask for computer name.
In Windows XP it may different.
